    2010 Canadian Triple Crown Championships

The Canadian paintball scène has always been dominated by HUGE events. These events have drawn players from every province and many from the USA as well. The first event to do this was the Canadian Nationals. Unheard of team counts and celebrity visitors from the USA made this event the top stop on the paintball calendar.

The next event from the Great White North to grab the attention and headlines in the paintball world was SKYBALL. A Fantastic location, plus top level teams, and a fantastic prize package, 5Man teams HAD to play this event, even just once, just to say that they did.

The BCPPL was the new kid on the block in 2005, but the vision and organization that they brought to the table with the introduction of the BRAWL FOR IT ALL event was remarkable. "Brawl" is now a true landmark event that brings all of Western Canada, and the Pacific Northwest to the coast for an awesome weekend of paintball every November.

2010 is the year that the next great paintball event begins its own history.
Never before have 3 leagues come together to run 1 event, in an ideal setting, with equal access for all.

The BCPPL, MR Series, and the IPL are very pleased to announce the very first inaugural event to be held each and every year.

The Canadian Triple Crown Paintball Championship will be held in Salmon Arm, BC on JUNE 11-13, 2010.

  • 2009 Series Changes

    IPL 2009 Season Details

The IPL will be making several changes for the 2009 season. These changes are based on player, promoter and sponsor recommendations. Thanks to all that submitted their input on the forums or via email.

    1. The series pts will be calculated the same as the BCPPL does. This change will give more weight to a team that plays all four events. Taking away the ability to win a placement in the series based on one win.

    2. Layouts will be released upon registration. Even if the software becomes an issue, we will issue a scanned image.

    3. Novice division will be modified to Open Division. Open class will be unrestricted as far as roster rankings are concerned. We hope that Open division will be the pinnacle of paintball achievement in the IPL. Remember, a player can play two divisions at the same tournament legally. So you can opt to play open if you are a rookie/novice and still play on your friends’ rookie team.

    4. Paintball Players Cards: For 2009 we will be issuing players cards. Players will be required to fill in a form and submit for their 2009 card. The cost will be $20 per player for their card. If the player has a CPPL or BCPPL card, we will accept their card instead. This process will make the rankings in Western Canada much more streamlined and fair.

    5. We will issue an outline of the quarter-finals through finals game schedule with your preliminary schedule. Of course the teams will be blank, ;-).

I hope these changes work for the better. If anyone has any concerns or feedback feel free to email me at limey_13@hotmail.com.

See you in the 2009 Season.

    IPL President

  • IPL 2008 wrap-up

    IPL 2008 – Wrap-up

The tournament season is over for the Interior Paintball League once again. Some major changes were made for the 2008 season.

We lost two grass venues in Clearwater and Revelstoke. Two promoters chose to move on with other ventures, leaving us to find last minute replacements at the beginning of the season. Thankfully the remaining two promoters stepped up to the plate, despite having busy schedules, and ran two events each. This centralized the IPL in two major cities, Vernon and Kelowna. Making travel for Thompson-Okanagan teams much more accommodating.

Novice division was added to what was before a solely Rookie/Newbie series. Novice division allowed for two amateur players on a roster; where as all other divisions had only one player from one division higher on a roster. Novice turned out to be a series long battle between two bitter rivals BNI and 5-Alive. A battle that was not decided until the very last game of the series; where BNI barely managed to come back from a 4 on 2 and win the third game of the match. Special thanks to the Six Shootahs for traveling all the way from Terrace. It took them two days to make our events as the drive is 16hrs long. Six Shootahs made a name for themselves at E3 taking 2nd overall in prelims against a tough novice bracket. Again at E4 they forced BNI to 1vs1’s and that wasn’t enough to make them lie down. They forced the 4th and final sudden death 1vs1, which could have gone either way, but went to BNI. The Six Shootahs are a team to watch, hopefully you can see them at the Brawl for It All, if not they will be at the Nationals.

Rookie division remained the strongest of all divisions; with 14 teams making events throughout the year. The rookie series developed into a battle between Evil Pop Tarts and Sick Witted. With either team needing to place higher than the other to take the series win. Sadly for Sick Witted, a ramping gun penalty three games before the end of prelims, forced them to play short one man. They missed the cut by 27 pts and took eighth place against all odds and expectations. E4 had a tight preliminary round with the points between 3rd and 8th place only separated by 55 pts. Evil Pop Tarts clinched their series win before the ¼ finals even began. The Banditas played a solid preliminary round and took 4th place; they came up against the Rutland Young Guns in ¼ finals. Rutland Young Guns, having stepped up from Div 4 were hungry and took the Banditas to 1vs1’s; a match that was decided on the very last 1vs1. Rookie division had many exciting matches to say the least. They were as spectators pointed out, quite often more entertaining than the defensive play of novice division.

Newbie division was battle between Jive Turkey and Rutland Young Guns all season. As Rutland decided to step up in E4, the series was a lock for Jive Turkey. The Jive Turkeys, didn’t fail to entertain with several 30 second or less games in prelims; including a five man run through against Impulse to cap of prelims. The new team Armageddon turned out to be a tour de force. They were able to battle through a stalemate with Impulse to win the 1v1’s. Then take Jive Turkey to the third and final game in finals. They will be a team to watch for in 2009, as their Jive Turkey will be moving on up to division 3.

The executive of the IPL also changed for the 2008 season. Randal Lyon resigned at the beginning of the season, due to an excessive workload and turned over the presidency to Kevin Moore the former vice-president. We missed Randal’s presence at the IPL all season long. He was a great leader, who brought the IPL into existence from nothing more than several unlinked casual tournaments; solidifying rules, rankings, series pts seeding, major sponsorships, bringing in Edmonton Impact for two speedball clinics and much more. All of us involved in the IPL would like to thank Randal for making the league a possibility.

Changes in officiating were made for the 2008 season. Former Hardcore Factory series player and current Van City Spartan Kevin Steurle came back from his BCPPL conquests; to volunteer to be head ref for the season. We appreciate Kevin for giving back to the league that he first tasted victory in. Other returning officials from previous years were Braden Patterson (Van City Spartans), Liam Jollymore (Part-time Ninjas) and Chris Sackman. We would like to thank these guys for their continued dedication to making the IPL a fair and friendly league to play. After event two, Mike McDonald of the BCPPL volunteered his time to come and be ultimate official for the league. This was a big help, as we finally had an ultimate who was unbiased and worked hard to make our officials better than ever before. Mike McDonald was on the field after all other officials left, cleaning bunkers for Sunday’s play, only someone dedicated to the sport would take the extra time to do that. Mike brought with him two BCPPL officials Dan and Doodles, we would like to thank them for driving from Vancouver just to referee paintball for a weekend. Thanks to all our officials past and present, with out you paintball tournaments would not be possible.

Sponsors were added for the 2008 season. Returning sponsors Paintballgear.ca, Hardcore Paintball, Bushwacker Paintball and the BCPPL, all kept our league running from year one. We appreciate their commitment year after year to the sport of paintball. The BCPPL donated free entries all season long. Making it possible for teams to attend the BCPPL events that otherwise could not have afforded to. Notably Rutland Young Guns who took first place in Div 4 in their trip to the coast. The Evil Pop Tarts were not able to secure a win, but were secured a 3rd and 2nd in division 3 at the BCPPL. For the series the BCPPL kicked in some Brawl 4 It All entries, which was most generous. The IPL hopes all Interior teams make use of such a great prize addition. We also added Pacific Paintball to our league sponsors, who donated paintballs to the series prize. Finally, Canada West Dust Control, a corporate sponsor that kicked in cash to fund the IPL in 2008. We were able to add two new trophies to series, thanks to the generous support of Canada West Dust Control.

The IPL will be back in 2009, we are currently planning the 2009 season. We will release details in the New Year, dates can not be planned until our neighbouring leagues release their dates. Thanks to all the players for your continued support, we couldn’t do it without your sportsmanship and attendance. Anyone who would like to volunteer for IPL events in 2009, can contact me in the off season. Also, any suggestions or input, for the 2009 season are always welcome.

The IPL season may be over, but there are two great events to look forward to. The first is the BCPPL’s Brawl For It All on November 14.15.16th . Held in Cloverdale at the Stetson Bowl, it is a great indoor venue. Complete with a major trade show, full sized seven man field, indoor staging, grandstand spectator viewing, concession and much more. The Brawl For It All is the Provincial Speedball Championships. We encourage all our teams to attend the provincials and show the BCPPL the support they have shown the IPL. Later in January the Canadian National Speedball Championships will be held in Calgary. The Nationals is the longest running major event in Canadian history, run by Mike Carey of Bob Long’s Ironmen fame. Mike Carey puts on a bigger and better event every year. With the most five man teams under one roof that I have ever seen. Both of the above events are true spectacles, and anyone that can go, should go and represent for our region. Make the interior proud and bring home gold!

Thanks again to everyone, see you all next season.

    Kevin Moore
    IPL President

  • IPL Rules Ammendments for 2008, (steering committee)

After last event. The IPL has found the need to add two new sections to the 2008 rules. Taken from the NPPL and amended. We will add a steering committee to oversee the interpretation of the rules.

    What is at steering committee?

A steering committee is comprised of the league officials, captains of selected teams*, and the promoters. Because the sport of paintball is for the players, ultimately the players need to get a say in the interpretation of the rules they will have to play under.

The new rules are as follows.

7.06 Steering Committee. The Steering Committee is responsible for formulating the
official playing rules (“Rules”) for the sport of paintball. The Steering Committee will meet on the
days prior to the beginning of IPL event to review and issue interpretations of
    these Rules.
7.07 Equipment Committee. The Equipment Committee is responsible for determining
what paintball equipment will or will not be permitted to be used by players. The
Steering Committee will directly oversee the Equipment Committee.

*team captains will be invited to join the IPL steering committee, based on their attendance and commitment to the series.

Secondly, the BNI call for intereference with officials. I can find no rule to challenge that call. The steering committee will be responsible for defining a new rule that covers interference/influence of the officials. Also, the steering committee will review the actions of BNI, and the appropriate punishment.

As your league president, I apologise for the lack of clear cut rules on the BNI call. We did the best we could with rules on hand. Including calling higher league officials for their opinions. As an official, I would never make a call against a team, that does not have a corresponding penalty. For me, that is clear cut. However, when a team takes an action that is obviously wrong, intentional or not, we have to take action to preserve the sanctity of the game. For me that action is the implementation of the steering committee. The issue will be solved, and the players will have a say in the future of their league.
